Carpenters Crosses
I am 53 years old and about 10 years ago I read an article in the newspaper about a man in Florida who made small wooden crosses and gave them away. I remember how intrigued I was at that time. Then about 5 years ago God blessed me with some woodworking equipment and I made a small workshop in the basement of my home. One of the very first things I made was a large cross that I hung on the pegboard next to my other hand-tools. I put it there so Jesus would watch over me and keep me safe in my workshop. As my skill improved, I kept thinking about how I could use my woodworking ability in a ministry and finally about 6 months ago, it hit me. I could be like that man in Florida. I will make small crosses and give them away. My wife Joan thought it was a good idea and we set up this ministry. Now every chance I get, I am in the workshop making crosses and Joan threads the string through the small hole, not an easy job. We have given over 400 away so far and I hope that, someday we will give away so many that we lose count. I wear a cross most of the time now and I think it changes me slightly. Just when I am about to do some unchristian like act (which is much too often), I see my cross and think, others will see that cross too, so I am a representative for Jesus while I wear it. Mostly, however, it gives me comfort that I am so loved that Jesus died on a simple cross out of love for us. I have the recipe of how to make crosses on my website and I invite all other woodworkers to join me, for I cannot make enough crosses for all the Christians in the world by myself. I will try though. Dennis Adams |
