The Church Fulfilled by Bob Long Micah 4:5 All the nations may walk in the name of their gods; we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever. In Joshua 1 we see the nation of Israel in an unprecedented situation in place and time. Moses and the entire Exodus generation had died. Moses had been a great leader and was himself a prophet, but he had missed his destiny along with an entire generation who missed their collective and corporate destiny. In the midst of this national and personal tragedy, the Lord spoke clearly to Joshua on what to do next. I believe the instructions God gave to Joshua are exactly what the Lord is saying to the Church in America today. DISCERNMENT: (Joshua 1:3) "MOSES IS DEAD" Joshua was in mourning. The descendants of the Exodus generation were now dealing with the issue of having watched their forefathers die without inheriting the generational and geographical promise of God. The loss of Moses and an entire generation was tragic. The temptation to stay under despair and despondency was almost overwhelming. Joshua knew the call of God on his life, but if Moses couldn't take the people of God into their destiny what made him think he could?? Suddenly God spoke to Joshua telling him that Moses was dead! Now Joshua surely knew Moses was dead, so what was God really trying to get across to Joshua?? God was speaking to Joshua about arising. The "church" under Joshua was called now to "arise and advance in spite of their loss"! God was speaking to Joshua about DISCERNING what season this really was. It could not be understood or seen in the natural. Joshua was required to discern that A NEW SEASON, a DIVINE SHIFT was now underway. God quickly began to remind Joshua of God's revealed destiny for the people of God collectively. The truth was that God's purposes, promises and provisions were still true. The call was now upon "this generation" to discern the truth and the time in God. The church must in these present days not at all be governed or guided by the conditions the enemy has brought about. The call upon us now is to discern and to arise for advancement! DETERMINATION: (Joshua 1:6,7,9) "BE STRONG AND VERY COURAGEOUS" Joshua was no wimp to begin with. It is amazing that God carefully and specifically speaks into his spirit to be strong and very courageous. The magnitude of the call demanded more courage than Joshua had ever walked in. When God commands you, He also empowers you! There was a Jordan to cross and a Jericho yet to conquer and this generation were all born in the desert and had never walked in obedience to God. And the miracles they had seen were wrought through their parents. This was going to be a new season upon the earth, a new generation God was raising up who were following a new style of leadership. Sound familiar? "DO NOT TREMBLE" The Hebrew uses a very distinct word in translating what God said in that statement. The word "tremble" is a word used to describe the terror of God's judgment. In verse 9 God specifically tells the nation NOT TO ASSUME THAT THE JUDGMENT ON THE PREVIOUS GENERATION WAS NOW GOING TO FALL UPON THEM. In fact he instructed them NOT to believe or to embrace this type of mindset. If the Church embraces a mindset right now in America, that what has befallen us is the judgment of God then we will arrive at passivity and never arise to possess. "NOR BE DISMAYED" This word in Hebrew speaks of despair and demoralization. God forbid them to allow the wrong discernment of believing this was God's judgment. He forbid them to have despair, demoralization or dismay. HE COMMANDED THEM TO BE DETERMINED TO ADVANCE! DOMINION: ( Joshua 1:3) "EVERY
PLACE THE SOLE OF YOUR FOOT TREADS I HAVE GIVEN IT TO YOU"
Finally the culmination of the revelation is given. God confirms
that His plans and purposes for the nation has not changed. He
makes it clear that the age old promise will be fulfilled and that
this new season and this new generation would enter into
possession of all that God had for them upon the earth. Moses and
the previous generation had assuredly "gone to heaven",
but they had not dispossessed their enemies from the land God had
sworn to give them. Likewise, the church has had a preoccupation
with evacuation. The church must now embrace the dominion mandate
of ruling and reigning spiritually upon the earth before the
physical return of Christ. "Your Kingdom come, Lord, Your
will be done on the earth as it is in heaven" The King
Bridegroom Jesus is not returning for a Bride battered, abused and
overpowered by the Anti-Christ. He is coming for a victorious and
glorious CHURCH! We will dispossess the enemy and all the earth
will be covered with the glory of God and this gospel shall be
published in all the world. Psalm 110 says the Church is to
"rule in the midst of our enemies." This is not about
political or natural government it is about spiritual governing
authority in the earth, because He rules! The Church is arising
and advancing and we will fulfill all the purposes of God before
the return of Christ! Rise up and take your place in this new
season and in this Joshua generation of inheritors and
possessors!! |
