The Comfort of God’s Light
by Larry M Jaynes

Thankfully one purpose for which the Scriptures were written was to show believers (and those who are searching for hope) that our lives can be comforted by God’s spiritual light. Being thankful is certainly a great key to receiving spiritual gifts from God that, when received, will uplift our lives to the standard of light that the Scriptures reflect. II Corinthians 1:3 states that God is "the God of all Comfort" for with Him we have His inner spiritual comfort to rely on as a real source to place our trust.

Proverbs 29:25  The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

Proverbs 3:5-6  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thine ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Psalms 34:4  I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

On this earth there are devilish events that escalate in magnitudes from time to time, and from place to place (until the Devil is destroyed in the lake of fire, still a future event), because today we do live "in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation" (Philippians 2:15). The word "nation" dose not imply the country you live in, rather it means this current world in which we live. However, worrying about how bad things appear at this moment in time or fearing what the next awful thing that might happen is like a poison to the hearts and souls of Christian people, and this will steal away ones inner joy they have in walking with God. We should always try and remember that the Lord our God is on our side through life’s trials and temptations.

Psalms 118:5-6  I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place.  The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

Jesus said about those who do believe that: "they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them" (Mark 16:18). This is not a license from Jesus to run around and pick up poisonous snakes and drink deadly things simply to test if God is real. Jesus was teaching that when we have active trust, confidence, and believing faith in our God, then He can protect and shield His children, for He can become our daily refuge from the storms of the passing hour.

The Apostle Paul wrote about Jesus saying: "Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father" (Galatians 1:4). The living will of God is that we be delivered from the evils of this world. One major reason for Jesus Christ coming in the first place was so that believers may have a life with God that is truly more than abundant (John 10:10), and this includes a life that is free from doubts, worries, and fears.

Focusing our attention on the light of God’s comforting Word will dispel spiritual darkness in and around our lives. God’s healing Word when known and believed will inspire and encourage us to enjoy the positives contained in the Scriptures. Jesus said of God’s Word: "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full" (John 15:11). God’s Word was (and still is) given to us so that we might experience the fullness of joy that Jesus knows with its entire spiritual intensity and splendor. The word "might" is used because the choice is obviously ours, whether or not we will decide to accept all the joys of knowing Christ, and allow his very own joy to permeate our souls. John further states: "And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full" (I John 1:4). "These things" are the Scriptures, and the Scriptures are what show the believers their fullness of joy, no matter what the circumstances may be around us. For joy is spiritual and is within the Christian’s heart along with God’s light, grace, and peace; we only need to give Christ and his peace their rightful place in our own lives, and allow him to warm our souls with a meek and humble heart of thankfulness.

Ephesians 3:19  And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

Colossians 3:15  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body, and be ye thankful.

Wow! We believers can "know the love of Christ," not question if it is real, but to genuinely experience his love, and we also may "be filled with all the fullness of God." Could there be anything greater in this life than to be full of all of God’s fullness? Could there be anything better in this life than to be thankful for the gifts God bestows upon us? God loves us so very much (John 3:16). His desire is for us to accept and believe to receive all of His gentle goodness, which He has devoted and given to us abundantly through the redeeming work of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus is still our Savior (not just for one day in the past), because even today we can still believe on him and know his love intimately.

We can acknowledge Jesus Christ as our deliverer – every day "from this present evil world." With God in Christ in us we can be truly made free and released from all the life-draining burdens of fears about impending troubles that may or may not come, and as we continue looking to our Savior we will continue to receive our daily deliverance.

John 14:1  LET not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

I encourage you to cast all your care upon God, because He cares for you. When you pray, offer them up to God in the name of Jesus Christ when asking for help or guidance or release from negative situations. Allow God to work mightily within you (Philippians 2:13). Please try to spend a little time reading the Scriptures, and talk directly to your heavenly Father, this is so very healing for the heart. And – Please – continue to be thankful for the blessings that you have received from God, thank Him for giving you the desires of your heart. Look for the positives in His healing Word, then claim them in the name of Jesus Christ and allow God in Christ to strengthen your life as you enjoy your refuge from the spiritual storms of the day.

Psalms 34:1-5  I WILL bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.  My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.  O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.  I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.  They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

Hebrews 13:5-8  Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.  So that we may boldly say, the Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.  Remember them which have the rule over you {in Christian leadership positions}, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith {believing faith} follow, considering the end of their conversation.  Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

May your winter be joyful in The Comfort of God’s Light!
