Global Vision Citadelle Ministries
Haiti is one of the poorest nations
of the western hemisphere. The country is about the size of the
state of Maryland. The overall population is 7.5 million. The
illiteracy rate is increasingly high. As a matter of fact, most of
our people are living in the margin of the social life in inhumane
conditions.
Culturally almost every Haitian shares some form of beliefs. The
major religions are Catholicism, Protestantism, and Voodoo.
Historically, Haiti was the first black republic to gain
independence in November of 1803. The Haitians fought against the
greatest French army of Napoleon Bonaparte. After the decisive
battle of Vertieres, Henri Christopher erected the impregnable
fortress, La Citadelle, atop 3100 feet to symbolize the highest
aspirations of hope and liberty of the newborn nation.
If today there is anything left as a symbol of pride, aspiration
and freedom for the Haitian people it is the Citadelle. But we
believe that if we can elevate Christ to stand taller than the
peak of that wonderful fortress and allow His truth to shine down
the valleys of our country in despair we can give our people the
opportunity to see and be part of a reversing spiritual hope and
aspiration.
We understand that a change of heart and spiritual awakening has
to be first before anything else that would better the living
condition of our people could ever be possible (Matt. 6:33, Hosea
4:6, Ps 33:12). This is a rainy season; it's time for the Haitian
people to find shelter under the umbrella of the Lord. Ezra 10:13.
We thank the Lord for many missionary co-workers making the
difference for Christ in our country. We want to add our voices to
theirs so that the message of love, hope, forgiveness, and
reconciliation of our Lord can cross over the mountains faster to
help reach the un-reached for His glory. After two centuries of
existence, the Haitian nation is still politically unstable.
Within the last two decades, we have already rewritten a brand new
constitution for our citizens to live by. We have elected more
than a dozen governments into office and the country has only
changed for the worst.
