Have Faith
by Danny W. Setzer
Mark
5:25-29 And a woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve
years, and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and
had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but had
rather grown worse, after hearing about Jesus, came up in the
crowd behind him and touched his cloak. For she thought, if I just
touch his garments, I shall get well. And immediately the flow of
her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was
healed of her affliction.
First let me make this statement; you have faith! God has allotted
to each a measure of faith, Romans 12:3. The problem
of not receiving from God is bigger than I have time and space to
write, but I wish to address a few things I believe will help us
all overcome common roadblocks.
There is a familiar imposter of faith called mental assent.
Mental assent basically means that a person is positively
convinced that the bible is true and everything in it, but this
acquiesce is based upon a persuaded mind instead of a settled
faith. Faith and mental assent appear to be the same in
every respect except in results. Mental assent gravitates
and draws its energy from what can be learned or taught, while
faith moves beyond all logic and sense. Many people believe
the story of the woman with the issue of blood and would fight for
its authenticity, this is mental assent, but faith will put you
and I into the story and say I don't understand it but if today I
can touch the hem of his garment, I will also be healed right now
of my affliction.
How do we know if we are in faith or just assenting to God's word,
by taking the same steps the woman with the issue of blood took.
First she heard about Jesus, what she heard about Jesus did not
educate her, giving her more knowledge about the life of Jesus.
She heard that he
was healing people and this ignited a spark of faith in her heart
that she too could be healed. The bible says faith cometh by
hearing and hearing by the word of God, Romans 10:17.
God's words are thousand year old words that are vehicles that
carry His conversation today. Many people listen to God's
word without hearing God's voice that those words are carrying.
The woman with the issue of blood did not go to Jesus because it
was the logical thing to do, but because it was the faith thing to
do. Next she did something, she went to where he was and
pressed through the crowd. Just to say I believe is not
enough, she thought in her heart if I can only touch his garment.
WORDS and ACTION are required to activate the faith in our heart.
We must confess with our mouth what we believe in our hearts.
At some point we must attempt to take a step, get up, walk stumble
or crawl putting an act of obedience with our faith and God will
honor our faith
and meet us at that point with our miracle. Remember, faith
reaches beyond reason, it is based upon the word of God and says I
can have what God said I can have, I can do what God said I can
do, if thou canst believe all things are possible to him who
believeth.
