Seeing Through God's Eyes by Melissa Foster For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. - Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV) I'm doing this "Read through the Bible in a Year" thing again - trying anyway - and today's Old Testament reading was Numbers 32 in which two of the 12 tribes of Israel came to Moses and said, "You know, I know that God is leading us to His Promised Land and all, but we've been looking around, and we've been thinking...this place right here looks pretty good. We'd like to stay here." Paraphrase mine, of course. How many times have I done the same thing? I used to ask God fervently to show me His plan for my life - and I firmly believe the reason that He never shows me more than about one step ahead of me, rather than the whole plan, is that I know me (and He does as well) - I'm sure I would look the whole Plan over and say "This is really good, Lord, thank you - but you know, have you ever thought that maybe we could change this part here, and possibly that part there?" And I would muck it all up. Should it comfort me to know that I wouldn't be the first person to do that? In the devotional I read today, God shows that He looks at everything differently than we do - what we see as comfortable, he might see as dead. What we see as failure, He sees as the perfect steps on a perfectly planned out journey. I may not like it - I usually don't - and I don't think God is frightened when I tell Him I don't like it. About all I know to do is to keep walking. Someday I'll see the journey from a different perspective, and I'll be so glad that He was the one in charge, and not me.
