Danny Setzer
After realizing that success and lofty positions are not a worthwhile trade for true worship, Danny Setzer left a head deacon position to find a more meaningful relationship with Christ. A truly gifted Christian teacher and writer, Danny writes articles for Christian publications, teaching others about having a significant relationship with Christ. The following is a true story written by and about Danny Setzer. Encounter with PrayerSchool had just let out for the summer months, my friends and I decided to head to the beach only we had no car and no money. To anyone with good sense, this would present a roadblock, but common sense was something that was not common to us. After walking for about eight miles we decided to split up in order to increase our chances at hitchhiking. I was by all appearances a hippie, no shoes, no shirt, no money and no sense. I caught a few rides and made it about halfway to my destination when it became dark and traffic fell off. I was fifteen years old, scared, completely alone with no money, so I did the only thing I could think of to do. There on the side of the road I knelt down to pray and I said, "God please send someone to pick me up". As soon as I stood up a car came and as I stuck out my thumb the car amazingly stopped. Even more amazing were the passengers, a man, his wife and three children looking at me as though I was part of their family. I was a hippie with no shoes or shirt and this man had no problem putting me in the backseat with his three children. He said they were also traveling to the beach and took me the whole way and once there offered to buy me something to eat. Several years later I had a dream about this day. I was watching the dream the way you watch a television set. I saw myself walking down the road, everything was exactly the same except that I had a seven foot angel following behind me. As I watched myself kneel down to pray the angel instantly went before the throne of God and said, "Is there anything we can do for him?" Seconds later that car came down the road and picked me up. It breaks my heart to know that God cares enough for me to send a chariot to honor the prayer of a runaway teenager lost and lonely on the back road of life. Danny W. Setzer |
